Front Yards in Bloom

Every year, the Edmonton Horticultural Society sponsors Front Yards in Bloom, a competition where mail carriers and neighbours can nominate yards and gardens that they find especially attractive. Volunteers from the Society then visit all the yards nominated, and decide on the winners.

This year's contest is especially interesting to me because it includes, for the first time, a category for an "Edible Yard", a garden including productive fruit or vegetable plants. The yards nominated can be front, side or even back yards, as long as they are open to the public view. Since food plants are traditionally hidden behind fences in the backyard, I am looking forward to seeing what sort of thing receives votes in this category.
